Like you, I was unsure about buying these bad boys, even if they were affordable, as there are a kazillion different types of headphones out there.

They have all kinds of styles with different price ranges and all that stuff.

There are in-ear, on-ear, over-ear, and on-top-of-the-ear types of headphones, so it’s not easy to decide which one fits you.

Whew!

Where do we even start?

There’s a lot to look for when buying new headphones that it will become more complicated when you understand what they are.

So, without trying to make things complicated, let’s see if these will be your next EDC headphones or if you should save that $50 for gas.

Sony WH-CH520 Headphones Review – Quick Overview

For those of you who don’t have time or don’t feel the need to read through a bunch of text, here is a quick summary of the Sony WH-CH520 headphones.

If you are on a budget but looking for a nice set of everyday headphones, the Sony WH-CH520 headphones are the answer.

You can’t get any better for less than $50, and I think they are a great buy.

I mean, a really great buy.

They are beyond affordable and sound a lot better than my first set of Beats, which cost more than triple the price of these ones.

Not to mention that this one is wireless.

On top of all that, 50 hours of listening time on one charge is way more than you will find with other headphones.

Do remember that these are on-ear headphones, and they aren’t noise-canceling.

Besides that, you won’t find a better set of headphones in this price range.

Grab it while they are on sale, and you’ll be pleased with your purchase.

A Deep Dive Into the Sony WH CH-520 Headphones

Now that we have that out of the way let’s get a little more into what the Sony WH CH-520 has to offer.

To test them, I am literally sitting here wearing them, listening to some Kings of Leon.

I unboxed them while getting an oil change, so don’t mind my awesome background in some of the photos.

I didn’t charge them or do anything crazy.

I turned them on, connected them, and listened to my work playlist on Spotify.

With that being said, let’s get into the Sony WH CH-520 headphones.

Sony WH CH-520 Specs

These headphones are wireless, sit on your ears, and will run you around $50.

They come in black, beige, blue, and white and can be found on Amazon for much less than $50.

They have a total music playback time of 50 hours max.

They have a quick charge feature that allows you to charge the headphones for 3 minutes, which will give you up to 1.5 hours of playtime.

They allow for hands-free phone calls and connect wirelessly through Bluetooth.

They can connect to multiple devices and display the battery’s charge in your Bluetooth settings.

Also, upon turning on the Sony WH-CH520 headphones, you will be greeted by a nice AI lady, letting you know your headphones are fully charged.

Out of the Box – Getting Started

There’s nothing fancy with the Sony WH CH-520 headphones.

You get the headphones, about an 8-inch charging chord, and the basic instructions/warranty material.

The packaging is simple, sleek, and great for a $50 product.

The setup was beyond easy.

I turned on the headphones and Bluetooth on my laptop and paired them like any Bluetooth device.

I could start listening to music and go about things as if I were always using headphones.

Sound Quality

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s dig deeper into this Sony WH CH-520 review.

As far as sound quality, I can say that these headphones actually blew my mind.

I know that sounds a bit much, but I could not be happier for what I paid.

Before every song starts, I try to see how clear things are and if there’s a good base, and that’s been the case so far.

It gets you into the music, and it is really clear.

Battery Life

So far, this thing has not died, and I have been using them for a while.

I was getting an oil change while listening to some music.

I used them again when I got home.

And now, I’m listening to more music as I do this review.

Unlike before, a lot of Bluetooth products can last a decent amount of time and one of those products just so happens to be the Sony WH-CH520 wireless headphones.

Comfort

I’m not much of an on-ear headphones type of guy, but I use them occasionally.

With the Sony WH CH-520 headphones, comfort is not that bad.

I have been wearing them since I started this review, and surprisingly, I have not had a sweaty ear attack.

That usually happens with most on-ear headphones but I guess I’m really into this review that I didn’t have the time to have a hot-ear panick attack.

Overall, though, the Sony WH CH-520 headphones are pretty comfortable and are doing a great job of not making my ears sweat.

Price

We all know that finding some good headphones for less than $50 is not an easy task.

Yeah, you can find a bunch of them at any convenience store, but you’ll have a headache trying to deal with them.

Spend about $50 on some really good-sounding Sony WH-CH520 headphones, and you won’t regret it.

Overall, you can’t complain about the price.

Phone Calls

I’m always taking calls while listening to music, and I’m really pleased with the Sony WH CH-520 headphones’ capabilities.

I can hear the person I’m talking to clearly, and they can hear me as well.

Without an actual mic coming from the headphones (like in old AT&T days), I thought communication would be a problem, but it wasn’t.

I guess we need to get used to this new technology and understand that things aren’t what they were just five years ago.

Overall, phone calls with the Sony WH CH-520 headphones were great.

Bluetooth Range

Every time I take a break from writing this post, I keep the headphones on while walking out into the living room.

I didn’t think I would still be connected, but I was.

Just to test things further, I went outside the house and walked as far as I could to see when I would lose connection.

To give a rough estimate, I went about 100 feet, and that’s when I lost connection.

Even if I don’t plan on being that far away from my laptop, I at least know that I can walk around while on a phone call and still be connected.

Overall, the Sony WH CH-520 headphones get two thumbs up for their Bluetooth capabilities.

Pros & Cons

There’s a lot to like about the Sony WH-CH520 headphones but like everything else in life, there are some not so awesome things.

Pros:

  • Very affordable
  • Great sound
  • Simple design
  • Wireless
  • Long battery life
  • Comfortable for on-ear headphones
  • Different colors to choose from

Cons:

  • Could use a longer charging cord

Who This is For

It’s not the easiest thing to recommend just one product when there are so many to choose from.

However, the Sony WH-CH520 wireless headphones are great for anyone on a budget who is still looking to get their money’s worth.

If you have a couple hundred dollars to spare without missing a car payment, Sony does have a nice set of over-ear headphones that I plan on buying next.

Final Verdict: Definitely Worth It

Overall, I am very satisfied with the Sony WH-CH520 wireless headphones.

The price did not dent my bank account, and I’m not exaggerating when I say the sound quality was better than the first pair of Beats I got when they first came out.

Sony always produces great products and they didn’t come up short on these headphones.

I did pick up a pair of JBLs, so be on the lookout for a review on that, as well as a comparison to these headphones.

So, if you’re in the market for an affordable but good-quality set of headphones, the Sony WH-CH520 headphones might be worth getting.

Thanks for reading my review, and I hope it has helped you in one way or another.
