This GORUCK Bullet Ruck Double Compartment review will help you decide if this is the right backpack for you.
LIke some of you, I too, had the hardest decision on whether or not I should buy the GORUCK Bullet Ruck Double Compartment backpack.
There was so much to consider before I decided to finally purchase this backpack.
Will it look too small, and how much stuff can it hold?
Should I get the 16L or the 18L?
Bullet Ruck or Double Compartment?
Don’t worry, I’ve dealt with the same indecisiveness, and it sucks.
It’s not easy to choose a backpack for everyday carry as there are so many of them out there.
So, without trying to confuse you any more than you already are, let’s get into this GORUCK Bullet Ruck Double Compartment review.
Bullet Ruck Double Compartment Review – Quick Rundown
The GORUCK Bullet Ruck Double Compartment ruck is the perfect backpack for EDC and short adventures.
For starters, the pack looks amazing, which is the main reason I decided to buy it.
Its double-compartment design adds so much extra storage that I almost started to pack unnecessary gear.
Kind of.
It is made of ripstop nylon, which seems to be popular these days, and is as durable as they come.
It has the mandatory YKK zippers that should come with any backpack that claims to be durable.
The backpack’s material feels great, and it feels even better worn.
Straps are very comfortable, and the Bullet sits higher on your back, which I find to be better.
It might feel weird at first, but after a few days of use, you’ll see that this design is a lot better for comfort.
Overall, I love GORUCK’s Bullet Ruck Double Compartment ruck, and I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a good quality backpack for EDC, short hikes or simple outings.

Unboxing the Bullet Ruck Double Compartment
It took forever for the GORUCK Bullet Ruck Double Compartment ruck to get here, but it finally arrived.
Not only can I see what the bag is all about, but I can also do a legit GORUCK Bullet Ruck Double Compartment review.
The GORUCK Bullet ruck came in a box, which is probably why it took so long to get here.
In the box was the GORUCK Bullet, inside a plastic bag, and that was it.
It did come with the All-American GORUCK patch.
Otherwise, you’ll just have a black fuzzy square on your backpack, which is fine, too.
I was expecting some Ridge Wallet-style packaging for something with such a high price tag, but I guess the box and plastic bag are fine for a rugged backpack.
Specs
The Bullet ruck’s body is made from Ripstop Robic Nylon, while the back panel and shoulder straps are made with 210D HT Cordura.
It weighs a whopping 3.1 LBS and measures 11.75” W x 18.5” H x 7” D.
Don’t forget we are talking about the 18L ruck, as the smaller 16L ruck weighs less at 2.8 LBS.
The GORUCK Bullet Double Compartment ruck is NOT made in the USA but is still a quality backpack.
Look at your current backpack or any other bag, and you’ll see that most of your stuff isn’t made in the US anyway.
Not to say that’s a great thing, but that’s just the route most product creators take.
Initially the ruck is a little stiff, but after a few days it will loosen up and function the way it should.
Features
The biggest selling point of the GORUCK Bullet Double Compartment ruck is its size and double compartment, which it has done successfully.
On the front of the pack, you have the diagonal slash zipper that a lot of people are crazy about (I have no idea why).
At the top, you have a quick access compartment, which can fit some small items and up to a regular sized iPhone.
On the back is the bombproof laptop compartment, which does take a little getting used to.
Of course, the ruck comes with two compartments, with each having its share of usefulness.
The front compartment has two mesh pockets, one simple pocket, and a pouch-type pocket, which is great for pens and other small things.
The bigger/main compartment is where you store your larger items, but it does come with an elastic pocket, a sleeve that’s great for a tablet, and some molle attachments.
It’s a smaller pack that I thought would be a lot more simple, but it does pack a lot.
What I Liked
The first thing that I really like is what the backpack is made for.
The double compartment feature.
It’s as if there are two main compartments that hold a lot of stuff that it feels as if this pack was more than 18L.
The idea for the laptop compartment was also a plus after I got used to everything.
I like the amount of pockets the Bullet has, but I mainly like the look and design of the ruck.
Complaints of the Bullet Ruck Double Compartment Ruck
No product is perfect, and the Bullet line is no different.
I found that that Bullet Ruck does not stand on its own, which I didn’t really like.
It’s not a dealbreaker, but even with the pack fully loaded, it still falls over like a front-heavy beer drinker.
I’m also not cool with the fact that it was made in Vietnam, but I’m over that, thanks to their Scars warranty.
Besides that, I’m not the biggest fan of complaining, so that’s about all I can think of.
What Could’ve Been Better
I think the quick-access pouch could’ve been just a tad bigger.
As one of the most common pockets in most backpacks today, I think they could improve in that department.
They could’ve definitely done something to make the ruck stand on its own and some molle connectors would’ve given the ruck more capabilities along with a more tactical look.
What Others Had to Complain About
For some reason, everyone and their fathers complained about the spearhead branding at the bottom of the ruck.
I actually like it, and I think all brands should showcase their logos and be proud of them.
Another complaint about the Bullet Ruck Double Compartment is that there are no water bottle pockets.
This is more of a preference, but I think they could’ve included some Molle attachments that give you the option to attach a water bottle pocket.
The pack was designed more for flasks (which I like), and the bottle can be placed inside the ruck.
Lastly, some think the price for the Bullet Ruck Double Compartment is a bit high.
I would agree with that until you see the Scars lifetime warranty attached to ALL of their products.
But for a $255 backpack, I think it’s worth it, but only for the right person.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Definitely high quality
- Looks amazing
- Pockets galore
- Clamshell opening
- Two compartments
- Scars lifetime warranty
- Scars Customizations (extra cost)
Cons:
- Pricey
- Kind of heavy
- No water bottle pockets
- Ruck can’t stand on its own
- Is not always made in the USA
The Price
If there’s one reason why it took me so long to get the GORUCK Bullet Ruck double compartment, it has to be the price.
If you want this ruck, it will cost you $255.
Remember that you’re buying the Bullet Ruck for its durability, its looks, and most especially, the GORUCK name.
I own a few GORUCK products, and I’m happy with all of them.
I will soon be reviewing my favorite bag, the Kit Bag, so be on the lookout for that.
The Bullet Ruck Double Compartment is one of my favorite EDC bags, and it is actually one of their cheaper products.
Check Current PriceWho This is For
It’s not easy to pinpoint exactly who this is for, but as mentioned earlier, this is my current everyday carry backpack.
I use it everywhere I go but I think I am using less than half of what it can actually hold.
So, I would say this is for anyone who wants a very robust EDC, someone who doesn’t pack much while hiking, or anyone who likes the tactical look and durability that GORUCK provides.
If you fit anywhere in those categories, the GORUCK Bullet Ruck Double Compartment is the bag for you.
GORUCK Bullet Ruck Double Compartment Review: Final Verdict
Overall, I am really pleased with this Bullet Double Compartment ruck.
For now, it is my current EDC backpack, but I do plan to take it hiking so I can test what it can pack.
I like the look and feel of the ruck and I’m a fan of all the pockets it has.
The ability to customize the ruck is a definite plus, and you can’t discount the lifetime warranty.
I recommend the GORUCK Bullet Ruck Double Compartment if you’re looking for a durable, compact backpack that can fit a lot of stuff.
