The iPhone X is Nice But Was it Worth the Wait?

By John

Last Updated:

So I finally got my hands on the iPhone X or 10, whatever you want to call it.

Was it worth the money, or should I have waited for, maybe, the iPhone XS?

If that’s even in the works.

Well, I got Apple’s latest addition, and I had the chance to not just mess around with it at a kiosk at the mall.

I got to set it up and personalize it to work just the way I want it to.

After just a few hours of “messing around,” I was able to get the hang of things and adjust to the few changes they had made.

Was it worth the wait?

Allow me to explain the pros and cons as well as my ultimate opinion on whether or not you should get the very much anticipated iPhone X.

Product Overview

If you have not heard of Apple and its latest iPhone X, you might have just been living under a rock.

The iPhone X is Apple’s latest phone and has once again delivered more hype like every other phone it released.

With the iPhone 7 and 8 being very similar to the 6, I couldn’t give into Apple’s marketing as no real change pushed me to pull the trigger.

When they started promoting the iPhone X, I wasn’t that impressed as all I saw was the facial recognition, Animoji, and the whole full-screen upgrades.

That said, let me get into some of this stuff so you can see if the iPhone X is worth its higher price tag.

User Interface

For me, it takes a lot for me to get used to something and the whole notch up top wasn’t something I was very impressed with.

After only a day, I was over it and actually liked it.

Not having a home button is actually a really good thing, and swiping makes things a lot easier.

After about 30 minutes of owning this phone, you will get used to everything.

Facial Recognition

All I have to say is thank you.

Not only was the home button a waste of space, but the fingerprint thing just wasn’t my best friend, and I’m sure a lot of you can relate.

If my thumb was a little moist, I would have to resort to putting in my passcode.

Having to adjust my thumb to “get lucky” just to unlock my phone was more of a hassle, and I found myself going straight to the password just to get in my phone.

Now they have facial recognition, and it unlocks my phone just by looking at it.

This feature also works with all the apps I use, so this was a huge upgrade on Apple’s part.

Then you have the Animoji.

This thing looked like a waste of time at first, but I think this is actually really cool.

You can only send this to other iPhone users, but you can not send it to Android or any other phones.

You can save your Animojis and then send them to everyone else.

There aren’t many Animojis to choose from, but they are really accurate and can be used by anyone else, as my kids love messing around with them too.

Usability

I have always owned every version of the iPhone besides the 7 and 8 and I really thought I wasn’t going to get anything special.

Out of all the different models, this is by far the best one yet.

Period.

As far as simple and user-friendly, this phone will beat any other phone out there.

Swiping up to go home and all that just makes things that much easier.

Very easy to learn and is flat-out easy to use.

Battery Life

I can see a difference in battery life, but there is a catch.

The X takes a lot longer to charge than my 6S but it does go a lot longer as well.

I tried to drain it completely on my first charge but I don’t think that little trick works anymore.

On a full charge with normal use, I can go a whole day without having to put it on a charger, which is great for any cellphone for that matter.

Now once my son gets on and starts playing games and watching Youtube, that’s when I need to get it another charge.

Other than that, the battery life did improve, and another thing to add to the pros of this phone.

Is the iPhone X Durable?

Sorry guys but I’m not about to drop this phone as I would not want to ruin something so pretty I did watch some videos on Youtube and this is where I was kind of disappointed.

From what I’ve seen, this is probably the most sensitive phone out there and what Apple has done here might not benefit consumers.

The iPhone X is probably the one phone that you wouldn’t want to carry around naked and one that definitely requires a case.

What you do need to know is that the back glass is not only sensitive but it is stuck to the rest of the phone causing it to need a professional to repair it, AKA Apple.

Cool glass and all but this is probably the worst thing that this phone has.

I’m almost certain that this glass could have been put on separately, but I see this as one of Apple’s stunts to get us stuck to having to make another purchase with them.

The worst part about this repair is that it is going to cost you $359!

Are you serious?

This is a huge turnoff, but will all the other good things make you forget about this back glass?

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Looks amazing
  • Bigger screen
  • No home button
  • Very user friendly
  • Longer battery life
  • Better camera

Cons:

  • Kind of pricey
  • The back glass is not durable and will cost an arm and a leg to repair
  • Not as “waterproof” as we would like it to be

The Price

This is one thing that I didn’t like until my carrier decided to do a promo and allow me to get an iPhone X for $199.

This was a no-brainer decision for me and without that price, I don’t think I would spend the $1200 that you would need to pay without a carrier.

My recommendation…

Get on a contract.

Most of you hate being bound to a contract but I’m pretty sure that over 80% of you that buy any phone will stick with the same carrier for a very long time.

And if you’re not satisfied, every company is willing to buy out your existing contract just to get you to join them, so I see no issues here.

At a Glance

Name: iPhone X

Price: $1,200 from Amazon

Cheapest Place to Buy: Price is almost identical everywhere

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Hottest item out there and definitely recommended!

Final Verdict: Great Buy

Definitely, a must buy for those of you in the market for a new phone.

After a week of owning the iPhone X, I can honestly say that this is the best phone I’ve ever owned and this is coming from a dude that has had almost every iPhone and did try to use a Samsumg but couldn’t stand the lagging of their apps.

The iPhone X is very user-friendly and if your contract is about to expire, this is the phone to get.

I hope this review of the iPhone X has helped you in one way or another as I’m sure a lot of you are still on the fence about this product.

If you plan on getting this, please get a case the same day you get it because it is not as durable as past iPhones.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy your new iPhone X!
