Times Have Changed and Manbags Are In – Or Are They?

Manbags are in and there’s nothing you can do about it.

I remember the days when women only carried purses.

Rather than trying to be all manly, I would just like to say that I guess women can be a little smarter than men.

All this time, women have been the most functional and stylish gender when we could’ve been doing this many, many moons ago.

Personally, I’m a backpack kind of guy, but for something like an everyday carry, I think a nice little messenger bag or something big enough to hold a bunch of little things will suffice.

So is the Manbag Really in?

Sorry 1990, but things have changed from the “I’m a tough guy” type of world, to a more modern, metro type, if that’s what you want to call it.

These days, the manbag is very much a popular accessory, and I must say that I am a fan.

Growing up in the 90s, we once saw a man carrying a purse as being…not manly?

I can’t put a finger on it, but it wasn’t something you wanted to be doing at the time.

Talk About Functionality

Being the minimalist that I am, I’m always trying to find a way to cram things into one little space, and that’s really what a manbag does.

Just like the Bellroy Note Sleeve, having some type of bag to put your belongings in will make things that much easier.

The fact that none of us can leave home without our cell phones that are part of our EDC, and there’s no way around it.

Unless, of course, you grab yourself a nice little man bag.

I’m not a fan of the fanny pack, so if that’s the route you want to take then, that’s all you.

These days there are so many different styles to choose from that there’s no need to settle for one of those pouches you can win at Chuck E Cheese.

Don’t get me wrong, I have always wanted one of those but again, I’m from the 90s and those things didn’t come around as easy as we wanted them to.

Conclusion

There are some things that I’m not a fan of but a nice little bag of some sort is one that I can really embrace.

Not a fan of skinny jeans and I can do joggers, but I think the man bag is as metro as I’d go.

For those of you thinking about adding some type of little accessory to your everyday life, a man bag is the way to go.

If you work on the go like me, get one of those simple backpacks that can carry your laptop but still not have the look of a US Army rucksack.

Until next time, just remember…the manbag is in!

  1. I love the idea of a Manbag, my husband is always teasing me about my ‘having everything but the kitchen sink’ in my purse! I always tell him that he needs to carry his own bag, as he often asks me to carry something for him in mine! LOL! I hope it catches on 🙂 Love your ideas here, I am going to have my husband check out your website too.

    • That’s exactly how I was with my other half Madeleine! Now I don’t carry a murse, but I do carry around my backpack where ever I go as I do have my laptop which is very much needed. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and brightening up my day!

  2. I am no stranger to the EDC realm, but bags are a relatively new facet for me. I have been using a backpack for the past couple of years. It has been convenient for holding my laptop or a larger quantity of items, but I often found that its size led to overpacking or even carrying a mostly empty bag. I am going to try out some smaller sling bags.

    • I totally understand your situation Travie as I have dealt with and still continue to deal with that problem. I like backpacks but even the smallest ones have too much space for simple trips to the coffee shop. I always need my laptop and sling bags seem to be the better fit but not quite as stylish as something like a GORUCK. Sling bags are definitely better for basic EDC, but they can work for a laptop and some stuff if that’s what you’re looking for. You’ll like sling bags though, so get one that fits your style and I’m sure you’ll love it. Quick question though. Do you like the domain mancarry.com or does metaldetected.com sound better for an EDC site. We are considering rebranding and want to know what everyone thinks about the two brands and which you would prefer us creating content on. We value your feedback and everyone is welcome to chime in.
