The Grunt Pen Review: Is Voodoo Tactical Legit?

By John Cruz

This Grunt Pen review will give you a little more insight into one of the more affordable tactical pens on the market.

I’m sure you love cool gear if you’re anything like me.

You like it so much that you’ll spend a good chunk of change.

You’ll get an EDC backpack, a nice wallet, and some nice kicks, which you’re willing to spend some good money on.

Now, when it comes to pens, you might pull back the reigns.

I mean, you’re just trying to sign a document or get your thoughts onto some paper.

That was the idea of shoes until they decided to come up with many different designs and styles.

Okay, maybe shoes and pens aren’t that comparable, but just remember what I said when you find yourself in a meeting or at a coffee shop just to see that the person next to you has a fancy pen that catches your attention.

You have been warned.

Now, let’s get into the grunt tactical pen and see if it is worth anything.

The Grunt Pen Review

The Grunt tactical pen by Voodoo Tactical is made for writing and emergencies.

At least, that’s what they say.

I got it for two reasons.

One, I like pens.

I wouldn’t say I’m pen-passionate, but I do like pens that look awesome and write well, even if my 9-year-old son’s penmanship is better than mine.

Who knows, maybe I was supposed to be a doctor.

The other reason I got the Grunt Tactical Pen was because it was affordable.

To me, that was a no-brainer, but for some of you who have never tried a good pen, $15 is a bit pricey.

For whatever reason, this pen caught your attention, and that is why you are on this Grunt Tactical Pen review.

So, let’s see if this is one place you would want to put your hard-earned money.

Unboxing the Grunt Tactical Pen

The Grunt came in very simple packaging and didn’t require a multitool or blade.

It was easy to take out and didn’t make much of a mess.

I mean, it is just a pen, and it could’ve easily been displayed in a cup like other normal pens.

However, this isn’t your ordinary pen.

It does have some tactical features, which we will discuss a bit later in this Grunt Pen review.

For now, let’s get into what this thing can do.

How Good Does the Grunt Pen Write?

When buying a pen, what do you expect it to do?

Write, right?

Well, yeah, until you’re spending an arm and a leg for one, then it should write better than anything you’ve ever felt.

When it comes to buying premium pens, it’s really that simple.

The same goes for buying backpacks, shoes, and all the other good stuff you carry in your person or wear.

You’re paying top dollar because it’s supposed to do top dollar things.

Being that this is a pen, I’m hoping that it writes better than one of those 12-pack Bic pens.

The Grunt Pen had a little rubber protector on the tip, so of course, I removed that.

I started doodling on the pen’s packaging, but no ink came out, so I pulled out a notebook and did more doodling there.

It took a while to get things going, but what do you expect from a pen that was probably sitting in a warehouse for months?

But once it started to write, it felt like your standard ball-point pen.

It’s nothing crazy good, but it’s not cheap either.

Of course, there are better pens, but for the price, I give this one 3 out of 5 stars as far as how it writes.

Glass Breaker Tip

I know the thought of breaking some glass is not on your calendar, but you never know when you’ll need to break some.

I mean, what if you had to get into a car and you couldn’t break the window?

You could end up becoming a meme if your gym membership isn’t paying off.

That wouldn’t be nice.

Or, you could get the Grunt Pen and have that specific feature for when that day comes.

I’m all about being prepared and ready for anything, and what better way to have the capability of breaking glass through your pen?

It doesn’t change what you carry, and it’s there when you need it.

Definitely a cool factor and one of the better reasons to buy the Grunt pen.

Compact Whistle

I had never been a fan of a whistle until I ordered one from BLANK.

It is the tiniest thing but has the loudest sound.

Once again, I had to get this on its own when I could’ve gotten it together with a pen.

That’s what you get with the Grunt pen.

Now, you might be wondering what you could possibly need a whistle for, and that’s a great question to ask.

All I have to say is that it is better to have and not need than to need and not have, especially when it comes to something as simple as a pen.

If you’re ever in the need to just call someone, you have a whistle.

If you ever get lost for a split second while out camping, you have a whistle.

Whistles are a great thing to have, regardless of whether you think you need them or not.

Final Thoughts and Price

The pen itself looks sharp.

It comes in your standard “tactical black” metal and has a nice rugged look.

It screws on and off, so it provides a solid feel when you’re writing and when the pen tip is closed for storage.

The price varies depending on where you get it, but it will cost you between $10 and $20.

I’m not sure if it comes in any other colors, but black was the only option for me.

If there are any other colors, please let me know.

The Grunt Tactical Pen Review – Final Verdict

Overall, I like the Grunt tactical pen.

It’s simple and provides a little extra for those that need or want a little tacticality in their life.

As a former infantryman, I love some good tactical gear, especially when you can do something as cool as writing.

At the very least, the Grunt writes better than the infamous ForeverPen.

I hope this Grunt tactical pen review has helped you in one way or another.
